About JH Employment Law Training
About Joanne Howard

Hi, I'm Joanne, the founder of JH Employment Law Training.
I qualified as a solicitor in 2003 and have spent my career immersed in the ever-evolving world of employment law. I began with six years in the voluntary sector, advising on everything from unfair dismissal to discrimination claims, and representing clients at Employment Tribunals and in the County Court. Along the way, I met some truly inspiring people and was lucky enough to be mentored by one of the best in the business.
After that, I spent eight years working as a trade union employment lawyer, covering everything from age discrimination to zero hours contracts. I also served as one of our workplace reps, which gave me a real appreciation for the day-to-day challenges organisations face on the ground.
Following a career break to raise my two sons (arguably the toughest role of all!), I began helping a financial training start-up with everything from bookkeeping to web design. There wasn’t quite enough law in it for me, so in 2024 I founded JH Employment Law Training and started a new chapter, combining my legal background with a love of engaging people through training.
Training has been a golden thread throughout my career, whether delivering legal updates for union reps and members, or designing an 11-week employment law course for an adult education centre. I take pride in making a complicated and often intimidating subject accessible and relevant. My goal is to help organisations feel more confident managing employment law risk and to build up their own internal know-how, so they can navigate tricky issues without always needing to bring in the lawyers.
A Few Extras:
-
I live in South West London with my husband and two football-mad sons.
-
Most weekends you’ll find me on the sidelines cheering the boys on, come rain or shine (mostly rain).

-
I’m Severely Sight Impaired (SSI), so I might miss a few visual cues - but what I lack in eyesight, I make up for in vision!

-
I love movies, live music eating out (from McDonalds to Michelin-starred) and catching up with friends.
